I offer: The process of motivation in a nutshell, by René Rupert 1 For leaders and managers, to motivate means creating favourable conditions for employees to spend their energy on the project of the company. 2 Employees spend their energy on projects that make their perceptions (P) converge towards their aspirations (A). 3 Hence, leaders and managers must know about P and A for best convergence. 4 HR indicators on managers’ dashboards are compiled from judgments (J), the result of employees comparing P and A which both remain hidden within their heads. 5 Hence leaders and managers do not see the information they need to motivate their people. With this set up, they have no chance to ever succeed, unless they are clear sighted, very close to their people and relatively free to make decisions. Suggested response to help managers: to visualize P and A of employees, and their target values, P and A that would be best to address the complexity of work.
