Responsible for day-to-day operations and overseeing assessments in all departments. Thys was a valued member of the SAPS for 13 years prior to opening his own assessing company. During his last 2 years with the SAPS he was the liaison officer between insurance companies and the SAPS. He was chairperson and organiser of the meetings between the insurance houses and the SAPS, which sparked his interest in the insurance field. He then founded a company called Ultimate Insurance Corporate Services, which was based in Cape Town and aimed at assisting and training insurance house clerks regarding accident investigations and vehicle theft/hijackings. After discovering a need in the industry for a call centre for Assessors countrywide, a new company was founded and the company’s name was changed to Network Claims Assessors Group. We are now able to offer our services countrywide, as well as in neighbouring countries in the investigation and Assessing of claims. Over the past 15 years Thys has hand-picked the "cream-of-the-crop" of Assessors to enter into a Service Level Agreement with NCAG with whom he has attained vast and invaluable experience and knowledge in all fields of assessing.

NCA offers two types of tracing services:

NCA offers two types of tracing services: *   Debtor tracing, for attorneys with a debt collections practice and the credit control function of financial service providers. *   Third party tracing, for the recoveries function of insurers. One application is specifically designed for the recoveries function of the insurers of motor vehicle related risk. Our tracing services were developed over a period of many years. They are based on a thorough understanding of the requirements of the consumers of such services. At the heart of every service offered by   NCAG lies the application of the investigative methodology of scientific method. This approach makes us unique. We believe that this is the reason why NCAG is succeeding in its objective to be the preferred service provider of debtor tracing and third party tracing services to legal practitioners and the recoveries function of short-term insurers nationally. We offer a third party ("TP") tracing service to the recoveries function of vehicle related risk Short-term Insurers, to: *   Identity and trace TP’s. *   Assess the recoverability of claims against TP’s. *   Facilitate the recovery of claims from TP’s. *Secure documentation (e.g. Accident Reports, witness statements from SAPS files, eath certificates) Identify, trace and depose witnesses to incidents of loss. d * Investigate the merits of motor vehicle loss related claims. All instructions are managed and administered from our head office in Cape Town. The mandate period for all instructions is deemed to be four weeks. *   Establish the registered owner of a vehicle from a registration number if the identity of the Driver/owner for a TP vehicle is unknown obtains the insurers details and insurance policy number. *Establish whether TP claimed from his insurer for his loss, and if so, obtain a claim number, and establish whether the TP vehicle driver was driving in the course and scope of employment (if the TP vehicle driver and the TP vehicle registered owner are different). *   If the TP vehicle driver is not the same as TP vehicle owner, establish whether driver was driving in the course and scope of employment. *   If the registered owner of the TP vehicle is a company we will obtain full statutory details for that company, conduct a financial assessment of TP to assess TP’s ability to settle the TP’s claim and obtain copies of documents (e.g. Accident reports and witness statements from SAPS files, copies of death certificates, etc.)

BURGLARY CLAIMS

Upon receipt of instruction the Admin Clerk immediately makes contact with the insured. The insured is notified that NCAG have been appointed and that the assessor will contact him/her to set up an appointment. The instruction is then handed to the assessor who immediately does a summary of the instruction/burglary. The SAPS A1 statement is requested immediately. Claim forms and policy schedules are checked along with the quotes received from the insurer/broker at time of appointment. Certain points are then flagged which need to be confirmed with the insured. At time of appointment, a full statement is taken from the insured. Once this is done a list of the stolen items is also compiled. Once this is completed we attend to the point of entry and exit. Once this is completed we do a full inventory of the items remaining in the dwelling. We then, once again, sit with the list of stolen items and cross reference them with the list supplied to the SAPS. We check all quotes along with the list. We also request PQ from the insured for the stolen items. The last inspection before leaving the scene of loss is the security on the premises, of which photos are then taken. NCAG     NCAG then submit our report for the insurers perusal. Included in the report we present a full quantum. We also present the inventory signed by the insured. We also apply average if applicable. Items without PQ are limited/adjusted as per relevant policy wording/endorsements. All quotes are attached along with the PQ supplied by the insured. SAPS A1 statement, 5.13.6, as well as alarm reports are also attached. Once further instruction is received we present the AOL as well as vouchers for replacement to the insured. Once signed and dispatched, our file is closed. will obtain an alarm report if applicable. Quotes are sent to suppliers to try and better the prices of the claimed items. We also check that none of the items are under HP (Hire Purchase). We request a 5.13.6 on the insured from the SAPS to see if any similar cases have been reported to the police in the past. We make sure that the quotes we obtain are for the same items claimed by the insured. If all is in order and all documents obtained

Fire insurance claims

Fire insurance claims   can be very complex due to the amount of damage caused not only by the initial fire, but by soot and smoke damage as well. Upon receipt of instruction immediate contact is made with insured. Upon first contact with the insured we enquire about the condition of the dwelling and or content. If the building is uninhabitable we immediately request permission for alternate accommodation should the policy make provision for this. Due to years of experience, we will immediately know what is required at time of first appointment. Along with the insurers permission the following will be ceded/requested at time of first inspection of /to the property – 1) Forensic Investigator (If Required) 2) Structural Engineer (If Required) 3) Quantity Surveyor (If Required) 4) Immediate safety repairs/measures to be taken/altered 5) Respective contractors to tender 6) Medical Treatment (If cover provided) 7) Trauma Treatment (If cover provided) 8) VAR – Structure & Content 9) Professional Fees The following documents will also be obtained – 1) Fire Brigade Report 2) SAPS Report – If Applicable 3) Various reports as stated above 4) Quotes/ Tenders - Content & Contractors A Preliminary Report is submitted to the insurer within 5 days of appointment. At this stage clean up etc can be authorised should everything be in order. Once all documents/ reports have been obtained the final report will be submitted. Once further instruction is received, contractors, suppliers etc will be appointed. Once all construction work/replacements have been completed all invoices are signed off by the insured & Assessor. Once the AOL is signed, our file is closed.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT AND HIJACKING INVESTIGATIONS

Motor vehicle theft claims investigation is a specialised area and quite different from the more traditional factual investigations. It requires a different approach and different tactics. Understanding the legal requirements, practices and clients' commercial expectations is important. What constitutes a successful investigation still confuses many investigators Our highly experienced Vehicle Theft Investigators are able to fairly and accurately assess any motor vehicle theft claim. We have various sources from which we draw information to aid us in our investigation process. SAPS - Circulation printout - Checked for the date, time and place of loss, whether the engine and chassis numbers correspond with the registration detail, who is noted as the compliant and owner etc. We also ensure the particular insurer’s interest has been recorded on the circulation / SAPS records. - Enquiry done with investigating officer ensuring the correct vehicle details are circulated and relevant statements made are obtained to compare with information given on the claim form - Letter of non-recovery E-Natis - Printout is obtained to establish owner, titleholder, and date of first registration, previous owners, vehicle license details, whether the vehicle is financed and other vehicles owned by the registered owner Factory Enquiry - A factory enquiry is done on the vehicle to confirm engine and chassis numbers, vehicle details and date of manufacture Mead & McGrouther - Printout indicating the trade and retail value of the vehicle is obtained Finance House - De-registration certificate and settlement figures obtained Credit Bureau - Enquiry is done on the driver and/or insured in order to determine whether possible financial problems exist. All information is used in conjunction with the assessors statements taken from the insured, last driver and witnesses pertaining to the circumstances surrounding the loss as well as the photos and inspection sheet from the inspection of the scene of the crime.
