RIPL
RIPL provides a network link between two or more sites using either RF (Radio Frequency) or FSO (Free Space Optics) with data rates from 1Mbps to over 1Gbps depending on the technology used, distance and obstacles. The package includes: a survey which is free of charge to determine if a link is viable or not, installation services, radio or laser hardware, full project management, all H&S documents, installation reports and one year of NBD maintenance break fix cover. Use ourlink calculator to find out the cost of your link.
Recently, Cirrustar have seen an ever-increasing use of wireless technologies to connect remote sites onto LANs & WANs. A Cirrustar RIPL solution eliminates the need for expensive carrier digs and the associated excess charges usually expected. Delivery is typically less than two weeks. The return on investment is usually less than 18 months, the customer owns the link hardware not the carrier and therefore no lengthy contracts or cancellation charges can be applied unlike a fixed term service from a carrier.
Why so cost effective?
Cirrustar are able to complete a RIPL survey request within 24hrs, usually within a couple of hours. The customer to take informed decisions much quicker and is not left waiting by a carrier to find out what the excess charges will be. Once a RIPL solution is ordered, Cirrustar can have RIPL installed in a matter of days. This presents the customer with a direct connection into their network, bridging the customer’s sites. Very little if any disruption to the on going daily usage of the LAN is caused. There is a one off cost, the customer owns the hardware and if required it can be redeployed reducing further spend for site moves and changes.
Why you shouldn’t and why we don’t use WiFi for a point to point radio link
Unlike WiFi 802.11b/g/n or even ac, a RIPL link has a consistent data rate because it has built in interference mitigation, which also improves reliability and reduces latency. A WiFi link is continuously being affected by other WiFi device’s it may see, consequently a WiFi link may be very cheap to use but cannot deliver a secure, consistent data rate with low latency as needed by many applications and organisations.
Low latency is important for organisations that operate VOIP, Video or cloud based applications. SME’s, local government, NHS and the MOD all use RIPL because it offers consistent & reliable data rates which are supported under an SLA, something that just isn’t possible with WiFi.
A carrier class solution, without the carrier's cost
All RIPL installs provide an unmatched SLA on reliability, based on uptime of the link Cirrustar are happy to boast 99.999% availability. For most scenarios it is also by far the cheaper option. We only work with the market leading Vendors in their field and have a team of highly skilled wireless installation engineers that understand the importance of a quality deployment, even the cable used is from recognised leading suppliers. We leave nothing to chance to ensure the customer as a minimum gets the desired data rate and in most cases a little extra. Should the system be incapacitated, usually that involves either being physically moved, turned off or an unplanned configuration change, under the NBD (next business day break/fix) maintenance contract we are on hand to rectify the issue within one working day.
RIPL is inherently secure by default
Proprietary design together with AES encryption ensures a non standards-based system, unlike WiFi, which has numerous issues with standard based security. All RIPL systems can be used in the most secure networks including the MOD's manual Y and V, FIPS 140.2, CESG as required by government agencies. The physical design, narrow beam and directionally focussed antenna or lasers provide extra security, making RIPL one of the most secure wireless networks available.
Installation Considerations
Working at height, using access platforms and ladders all require specific training and insurances. All Cirrustar staff are fully qualified and insured to perform these tasks. We are also able to produce full method statements and risk assessments. A vast experience of wireless installation services provide an insight into what should be required on site to keep any disturbance to the daily routines of the site to a minimum. Once installed the hardware is fully commissioned and tested with the customer to ensure all systems function to the highest standard.
