Chiang Mai ToyRide - Pah Lin Village School – December 8, 2011

This school is possibly one of the most needy schools we have ever assisted. It is located 5 km from the main road (hwy 1095) up a steep and sometimes impassable dirt road. It is a small Karen village school and this was truly a unique event. If you want to read more go to the following link : http://chiangmaitoyride.com/?cat=90

Chiang Mai ToyRide - Mae Sapok Nursery School Event 17-Dec-2010

Mae Sapok school is a very small Karen nursery school located in the mountains near Mae Win (Hwy 1013). There are 44 children ranging in age from 2-6 years of age. They have requested school materials, floor mats, sweaters, and also shampoo, soap and toothpaste for the children. CMTR has purchased these and other items. A water canteen, some shelves and even a toy slide were on the list. It was disappointingly rainy and chilly Friday morning, but it didn’t deter the CMTR participants and volunteers. They showed up at Richco Motorsport, our starting point, in surprising numbers....

Chiang Mai Mail Vol. IX No. 11 - Tuesday March 16 – March 22, 2010 - Chiang Mai ToyRide 2010: Three’s A Charm!

Everyone exceeded their fun quotas at the third annual Chiang Mai ToyRide (CMTR) charity motorcycle ride on Sunday, 21 February 2010. Nearly 200 bikes of all shapes and sizes (and riders of all shapes, sizes and ages) met the Tesco Khamtien parking lot in Chiang Mai to start the ride/parade to the X-Centre near Mai Rim for an afternoon of food, drink, music, clowns, magician, best decorated bike contest, prizes, face painting, games, relays and the famous giveaway to children from the mountain of toys the riders had donated. The only requirement for admission was one toy, though it was also mandatory for attendees to smile a lot while watching the antics of the special guests of the day: about 100 children from Chiang Mai’s School for the Blind, the Children’s Shelter Foundation, the Glenn Croston House in Lamphun, and the Ban San Fan Orphange in near Doi Saket. .........

Invalid URL: Banmai Samakki Preschool opened - Chiang Mai ToyRide - Helping Children In Need - Ban Mai Samakki Pre-School Project 12-Dec-2009

A Kachin/Akha community desperately needed a pre-school. The Chiang Mai ToyRide joined resources with the Chiang Mai Hiking Group to help….. The idea of setting up a pre-school in this remote Kachin village was conceived by an NGO volunteer who is also a “member” of the Chiang Mai Hiking Group. The hiking group sought and received donations to support this project in terms of salary for the teachers and reconstruction of an old nursery school building. The goal is for this pre-school to be sustained and managed by the villagers after the first year. This preschool will be used by Kachin and Akha children. Here is a link to more information from the Kachin Village Website. Enter Chiang Mai ToyRide. Or, as one member called it- Hikers meet Bikers! .........

THE BANMAI VILLAGE PRE -SCHOOL PROJECT - Supported by the Chiang Mai Hiking Group

Why is a pre-school needed? We all know that little children have an insatiable curiosity and a natural desire to learn more about the world around them! But not every parent is in a position to provide the stimulus and encouragement that a child needs, especially when they have been displaced from another country, and they are struggling to earn a living. This pre-school will introduce the children for the very first time to the excitement of learning from colourful books, and educational toys & games. Our aim is to help establish a pre school in Banmai and to support the pre-school during its first year or so of operation, until it is fully independent and financially sustainable. My wife and myself are proud to be part of this project which aims again to HELP CHILDREN IN NEED.

Banmai Kachin Village - Preschool Project supported by Chiang Mai Hinking Group

Owing to the deteriorating political, economic and social situation in Kachin State (part of Birma) over several decades, many Kachin people have left their homeland and scattered to foreign countries, including Thailand. Twenty five years ago, His Majesty the King of Thailand generously gave the Kachin the right to settle in Banmai, a village approximately 60 kms north of Chiang Dao. There are currently some 120 households in the village. The people now feel more secure but they have few opportunities for gainful employment and are very dependent on subsistence farming. Poverty and a lack of opportunity inhibit the families' ability to provide an educationally nurturing environment. There are currently eleven Kachin children of pre-school age in the village of Banmai, and seven Aka children in a neighbouring village. The villagers have recognised that their children are at a disadvantage when they first attend the local Thai primary school. This pre-school will enable them to learn some basic Thai and better prepare the children to take full advantage of the educational opportunities when they move on to primary school. It will encourage the children to be more independent of their parents and provide them with an opportunity to learn more about their own culture. We (my wife and myself) and other Members of the Chiang Mai Hiking Group are supporting this project and we hope that we can help especially the kids of these 2 villages ..... On behalf of Thailandfreunde e.V. section Thailand, cloths and shoes have been donated as part of the last visit. If you want to hear more about this project, please contact me. A webside is currently set-up.
