Thailandfreunde in Yasni Exposé of Janet Henry

I am first and foremost a mother. I have twin daughters, and two grandchildren by them. I am a US citizen, retired along with my husband. Together we have four grandchildren, my husband’s daughter has two very cute daughters. We live in Thailand, and for the first time in my life I feel I belong. We have been in Thailand for over six years. Since I have been in Thailand, I learned that American English as taught by the public school system leaves a lot to be desired. My UK friends are always correcting my errors, and we have a lot of laughs over word usage. Thailand has given me the capability to do a lot of good for others. (This is the mother in me coming out.) The Podology Center is my favorite place to be. The owner, and medical director are my “adopted sons”. I am so proud to have them in my life. These young men created the charity I work with. Thailandfreunde e. V. the German association, and PuenThai German International Organization the Thailand organization. (Puenthai means Thai German friendship.) I am their International Coordinator. I discovered the charity started during the Tsunami in Phuket, where these men worked hard to help united the children with their families, and those that lost their parents worked to find them food and shelter. I knew I wanted to be a part of this fine work. In this organization, no one gets paid for their time. We give, give, give. Each year we have a gala, our galas have been attended by Thai Royalty. Today, we work to help the Northern School for the Blind, and the HIV schools. I discovered that “under the patronage of the Queen” meant 20 THB per day per child, I joined the organization. (20 THB does not pay for even one meal!) The School for the Blind, has a waiting list of over 300 children. Our organization donated a kitchen, and gymnasium, a roof for a new building, our goal is to get 10 million Baht to purchase land and build another building to accommodate the many children wanting to come to this school. I love making jewelry and crocheting. I have very little time for it, so I squeeze it in when I can. . So far I made a necklace that was presented to the Lanna Thai Princess, and I created napkin holders that have been given to German and Thai royalty, all profit I make goes to charity. My dog Lana is a pure Thai dog, Part Yorkie, part Shitzu, she is our comic relief. Our home, is full of laughter and good will. I must admit, I am a very happy person.

This year (2010) I won in Chiang Mai, Thailand the donator of the year award of the human rights organization Thailandfreunde e.V.. The organization is bilateral with groups in Germany and Thailand dealing with the furtherance of underprivileged children. For my big donation this year I got the special award.
